The lost art of handwriting
Posted on: January 15, 2013
Handwritten anything these days seems to me to be a lost artform. The reason I say this is because since my laptop started screwing up I have had to revert to writing my novel in, well, writing… Yeas good old pen and paper. No more of this modern computer technology type stuff… Pen and paper…
As I said to my sister in law today “its all good and well to be all nostalgic and stuff… But there comes a point when something has to give.”
I am perfectly fine with writing with pen and paper, but I did find myself becoming impatient with the lack of… Auto-matic-ness of ink being rolled onto a page by a little metal ball.
I did manage to write out the rest of chapter 3, chapter 4 and now I am starting chapter 5.
My laptop stopped charging and as soon as I received a charger that worked my laptop stayed on for 5 minutes before it crashed 4 times in a row and I got so frustrated that I gave up. Now I still have my phone but I would like to point out, that I personally can write more and use proper grammar if I write down on paper, better than I can if I am typing on my phone or computer.
Why? Well because when you write with pen and paper it eliminates the need to be fast, you can actually sit back and concentrate on your writing.
So with that said I think it is time to make another coffee and get cracking on chapter 5.

I wrote the first two chapters of my novel in a notebook, but it’s so much easier to look things up on the computer. I also like the fact that the computer fixes your mistakes, but as you said, you don’t make mistakes by writing too fast when it’s handwritten. Also, on the screen you don’t find that many mistakes. Wow! Already on chapter 5! I’ve only written 3 paragraphs of my 4th chapter. I’m looking forward to reading your novel.

It’s amazing how much my handwriting has deteriorated since I started using a keyboard fulltime. And it makes my hand and wrist ache!

Mine too! But I have decided it is so worth it. I really want to write letters to people. But many people these days wouldn’t want to write back.
I will add to anyone who would love to exchange handwritten letters with me send me your address in my email – britnyboxall@gmail.com
